In just 24 hours you can lose 4 pounds -- according to the marketers of a glamorous fasting diet promise. This "celebrity miracle diet" involves consuming nothing but a premade dieting and cleansing drink for a day. This cleanse, also called the Hollywood Diet, is also purported to rejuvenate your body as you shed unwanted weight. Always consult a health care professional before trying a new diet, supplement or cleanse.

Process

You mix the premade drink concentrate with 4 ounces of water and sip it during a four-hour period. You repeat this process four times during your 24-hour diet, according to the manufacturer of the Hollywood Diet drinks, All Essentials, Inc. of Hollywood, California, which claims that if you do this you will lose an average of about 4 pounds.

Time Frame

All Essentials recommends you repeat this 24-hour diet at least once a month. Some dieters do the program weekly, according to the Hollywood Diet website. In between your 24-hour fasts, you should consume a balanced and healthy diet.

Features

During this 24-hour diet, you cannot take in alcohol, food, caffeine or tobacco. You also need to consume eight glasses of water. The cleansing juice you consume is made from 16 fruits and vegetables. Ingredients include orange, pineapple and apple juice concentrates, banana, peach and apricot purees, a host of vitamins and minerals and essential oils including lemon, orange, tangerine and bergamot.

Expert Insight

You will lose weight on this 24-hour diet. You drop your calorie intake to just 400 calories; each of the four juice servings has 100 calories. However, much of the weight you shed is water weight and waste from your colon because the juices in the product are likely to have a laxative effect, according to the Diet Spotlight website. You might lose some fat, but you might lose muscle as well. And you probably will not be able to sustain your weight loss once the diet ends.

Warning

Crash diets like the Hollywood Diet can be harmful to your health, especially if you repeat them frequently. Yo-yo dieting can damage blood vessels and lead to heart muscle loss, raising your risk for atherosclerosis as well as other forms of heart disease, according to CNN. Such diets also can make your metabolism more sluggish, making future weight loss efforts more difficult. Detox diets like this one also can cause fatigue, nausea, dizziness and dehydration, according to the Mayo Clinic website. There's also scant evidence that detox diets like this one do as they promise and help eliminate toxins from your body. The minimum caloric need for a woman is 1,200 calories and the minimum for a man is 1,800. If you cut calories far below this level, your diet needs to be medically supervised to avoid complications, according to the Mayo Clinic site.
