Extreme mountain bikers often utilize tubeless tires. As opposed to recreational bicycle tires, the specialized tubeless models do not have a hollow body with an inflatable tube. Tubeless tires must be securely fastened around the metallic rim to prevent leaks. According to Utah Mountain Biking, tubeless tires can function at a lower air pressure than conventional designs. Tubeless tires offer increased grip over rocks on the riding trail. Mounting a pair of tubeless tires will help boost the performance of your mountain bike.
Step 1
Remove the wheels from your mountain bike frame by loosening the quick-release levers. Examine the rims of your wheels to ensure no dents or cracks have formed. Create a soap-and-water mixture and apply a small amount around the wheel rims.
Step 2
Stretch one side of the tubeless tire bead around the front rim of your mountain bike. Align the tire bead into the bottom of the rim channel. Insert the air valve of the tubeless tire through the corresponding hole of the metallic rim.
Step 3
Fasten the opposing side of the tire bead around the front rim of your mountain bike. Align the bead into the bottom of the rim channel to seal off the tubeless tire. Repeat the installation process with your rear wheel.
Step 4
Fasten the head of the bike pump around the valves of your tubeless tires. Inflate the tires to 58 pounds per square inch. Examine the tubeless tires to ensure the beads have been locked into the bead seat of the rim.
Step 5
Align the axle of your front wheel onto the forward dropouts of the mountain bike frame. Tighten the quick-release lever to mount your front wheel. Repeat the process with your rear wheel to complete the installation procedure.
