ProForm produces a wide range of exercise products, including the 585 motorized treadmill, intended for use in the home. These devices function by using a motor unit installed in the base to power a drive belt attached to a roller. As the roller spins, it rotates the walking belt, allowing the user to walk or run in place. Over time, the friction that the belt experiences while moving may cause the component to wear out, necessitating the installation of a replacement.
Step 1
Unplug the treadmill's power cord from its electrical outlet. Inspect the front of the unit and remove the five screws that secure the motor hood to the treadmill's frame. Pull the motor hood free and set it aside.
Step 2
Move to the rear of the treadmill and locate the two adjustment bolts installed in the rear end cap. Use an Allen wrench to remove the bolts from the end cap. Pull the end cap free of the treadmill's frame and set it aside. Remove the side rails from the treadmill's base.
Step 3
Disengage the motor belt from the end of the front roller. Slide the rear roller free of the walking belt. Remove the four bolts installed on the left side of the walking deck. Loosen the four bolts installed on the right side of the walking deck.
Step 4
Lift the left side of the walking deck. Pull the walking belt free and discard it. Fit the replacement walking belt over the left side of the walking deck and the left end of the front roller. Slide the walking belt onto the center of the walking deck.
Step 5
Reinstall the bolts on the left side of the walking deck. Tighten the bolts installed on the right side of the walking deck. Reattach the drive belt to the end of the front roller. Slide the rear roller into the rear section of the walking belt.
Step 6
Replace the side rails. Fit the end cap over the rear of the treadmill's base. Insert the adjustment bolts into the rear end cap and tighten them until they are secure in the rear roller. Fit the motor hood back into its original position and reinstall the previously removed screws.
Step 7
Lift the belt off the surface of the walking deck. Apply silicone lubricant to the surface of the deck, then lower the belt back in place. Plug in the treadmill and activate the device. Set the treadmill to the lowest speed and allow the belt to run for five minutes to distribute the lubricant.
