Snowboarding combines skateboarding and surfing maneuvers with the riding locations of snow skiing. Modern snowboards often feature a lightweight carbon fiber construction. According to Transworld Snowboarding, many snowboard models feature a twin-tip design that allows you to perform freestyle tricks. The freestyle snowboard enables beginners to ride forward and backward without catching an edge.
Step 1
Place your feet into a pair of properly sized snowboarding boots. Insert your lead foot into the front binding of the snowboard. Fasten the safety straps of the binding to secure your boot to the top of the snowboard.
Step 2
Transport your snowboard to a beginner slope by riding the ski lift. Rotate your snowboard sideways to prevent it from sliding down the mountain. Sit on the snow-covered slope and fasten your back foot into the corresponding binding.
Step 3
Raise yourself into a standing riding stance. Rotate your shoulders to point your lead foot down the slope of the mountain. Bend your knees as your momentum begins to increase.
Step 4
Lean back onto the heel edge of your snowboard to carve across the mountain slope. Lean forward onto the toe edge of the snowboard to turn in the opposite direction. Rotate your shoulders until the snowboard reaches a horizontal position on the slope.
Step 5
Maintain a balanced stance by leaning back as your snowboard slows to a stop. Practice the basic carving techniques to improve your snowboarding skills. Attempt to ride on a more difficult slope once you feel comfortable with the turning and stopping maneuvers.
