Shooting is the most fundamental of all basketball skills. Without it, you can't score. Without scoring, you can't win a game. Becoming a better shooter gives your team a better chance of winning more games and helps you become a better all-around player. Developing solid shooting form and practicing regularly will help you become a better shooter and maybe even get you noticed out on the court.

Step 1

Ask a coach or experienced basketball player to watch your shooting form and give you advice and pointers on what you can do to improve it. Take the advice and use it as you practice your shooting technique.

Step 2

Buy a rebounding device or have a friend or teammate rebound for you as your practice. You'll increase the number of shots you're able to take, since you won't spend as much time chasing after the ball.

Step 3

Use fast-paced shooting drills to help simulate real-game conditions. Run laps or sprints before you do shooting drills to simulate the fatigue you'll feel during the game after running up and down the floor.

Step 4

Think about your form during practice, but during the game, just shoot. Don't think too much about your shot during the game. Let muscle memory take over. Thinking too much in critical situations--such as in game play-- can cause you to over think, affecting your shot.

Step 5

Have a coach or friend chart the locations of all your makes and misses during a game. Spend your practice time focusing on the areas where you frequently miss.

Step 6

Increase the arc on your shot. The higher the arc, the more chance your shot has to go through the rim without hitting anything. Don't arc the ball too much, though as you'll lose distance on your shot if there's too much arc.
