The shove it, or pop shove it, refers to a modern street skateboarding maneuver that requires a working knowledge of basic skateboarding techniques, including pushing and board control. Many novice skateboarders attempt to learn new tricks while keeping their board in a stationary position on the ground. Professional skateboarder Tony Hawk recommends learning the shove it while rolling slowly on your skateboard. Make sure to wear a protective skateboard helmet while practicing this technique.
Step 1
Lower the skateboard wheels onto the ground. Place your front foot over the four screws located near the front of the skateboard. Propel the skateboard forward by pushing off the ground with your opposite foot.
Step 2
Lift your pushing foot off the ground and onto the tail, or back end, of the skateboard. Slide your back foot halfway up the curved tail. Place your front foot near the middle of the skateboard with your heel hanging off the edge.
Step 3
Bend your knees to compress your riding stance while extending your arms downward. Press down on the tail of the board while raising your front foot. Jump vertically as the tail of the board smacks against the ground.
Step 4
Kick the tail of the board backwards in a scooping motion. Thrust your front foot forward to turn the board in the air. Lift your feet to allow the skateboard to rotate 180 degrees.
Step 5
Extend your front foot forward to stop the board as it completes the shove it. Lower your back foot onto the tail of the board. Bend your knees to absorb the impact of the trick as your wheels make contact with the ground.
