Tracking diet and nutrition information allows people to get an overview of their nutritional intake. While many sites have free diet tracking tools available, there are programs available that provide a more complete nutritional analysis. One such product is the Diet Analysis Plus program produced by Cengage Learning.

Cengage Learning

Cengage Learning is a multimedia company, located in 42 countries, that provides learning and teaching tools for professional markets. The products that Cengage Learning creates are utilized to increase student interaction and improve learning outcomes.

Diet Analysis Plus

Diet Analysis Plus is a nutrition analysis tool that can be used by both students and professionals. The program allows for tracking of diet and fitness and analyzes recipes, diets, and nutrient values. The program helps users understand nutrition principals, behavior modification, and goal setting in diet plans.

Diet Analysis Plus 8.0

The Diet Analysis 8.0 version is available on a CD-ROM and includes a database of more than 22,000 foods. The program can calculate ten different reports, including Daily Reference Intake and can compute percentages of nutrients in the diet. The program allows the user to set a profile specific to height, weight, age, gender, and physical activity to enhance goal setting. The program also has the ability to track intake for up to 365 days.

New Version

The new versions of Diet Analysis Plus are available only online. To access new versions, you are given a yearly access code and can access the program from anywhere. The new versions provide more critical thinking assignments and activity questionnaires. There is no difference in the food database or nutrient analysis. The newer programs still only allow for tracking for 365 days. The 2011 version is updated through the fall of 2010 and boasts a more user-friendly interface.

Cost Effectivness

The 2011 version of Diet Analysis Plus retails for $37.95. While the newer versions of the program are more expensive, the greater ease of internet access may appeal to some buyers. The new versions do require internet access, so older versions may be more useful to people without broadband internet. The Diet Analysis Plus version 8.0 is available for less then $20.
