There are so many infomercials out there regarding ab equipment. Most promise you sleek, defined abs in a short time frame. However, it is important to look at the specifics of each small exercise machine that works your stomach. It must work all of your abs, including upper, lower and obliques. There are many pieces of equipment that effectively work your abdominals.
Ab Wheel
The ab wheel is one of the smallest, most economical ab workout machines. It is simply a small wheel with two handles sticking out each side of the axles. You must get on your knees and hold the handles with both hands and arms in a locked position. Push outward as far as you can go then pull it back toward your body. This gives your abs an intense burn and can be used diagonally to work your oblique muscles as well.
Stability Ball
According to a study done by the American Council on Exercise, stability balls are one of the best pieces of equipment for ab exercises. A stability ball is a giant rubber ball that can work your abs as well as other major muscle groups. It is particularly advantageous to those with back problems, or those who do not like getting on and off the floor. You can lie on them to do regular crunches, or you can hold the ball in front of you or above your head and do standing abdominal exercises.
Ab Rocket
The Ab Rocket is easy to assemble and helps protect your neck and back when doing crunches. It stabilizes your upper body, making it easier to perform regular crunches. The Ab Rocket also increases your range of motion, so you can obtain a more intense workout than with floor crunches. You also have the option of working your obliques which makes the Ab Rocket an all inclusive ab workout.
Bosu Trainer
The Bosu ball is very similar to a stability ball, only it is perched on a flat, plastic disc. You can use either side; the ball or the flat side facing upward. If you place the dome side up, there is instability and it helps when training with balance exercises. If you place the dome side down and use the flat surface, it works similarly to a balance board.
