You don't have to be stuck inside suffering from cabin fever during the cold, winter months. There is a variety of entertaining sports games that can be played in the winter time --- even if it is snowing outside. With a few supplies and a bit of imagination, a snowy afternoon can turn into a wintery game-filled wonderland.

Sled Competition

Reverse the traditional roles and attempt to pull your dog on the sled. To play this game, the Disney FamilyFun website recommends gathering together a couple of sleds, ropes and good natured dogs or stuffed animals. Set up a finish line, making sure it is a relatively short distance from the start line since the dogs will more than likely jump off the sled quickly. Separate dogs and people into teams and climb onto a sled, hugging your dog to keep him in place. At "Go!" another player attempts to tug the sled to the finish line. The first players to cross the finish line win.

Snow Ball Throw

You will need sticks with flags attached to the ends and spray bottles filled with various colored water to play "Snow Ball Throw." Start by spraying a circle in the middle of a snow-covered lawn. Use a different color to draw a circle around that circle and continue with different colors until you form a multicolored dart board. Every player grabs a different colored flag and an armful of snowballs. Take turns throwing the snowballs, aiming for the bullseye of the circle. Mark your place with your colored flag with each turn. The player closest to the center of the circle wins.

Snow Football

Using a spray bottle full of water and food coloring, draw a big rectangle with a centerline in the middle of a snowy field. Separate into two teams of three or more players. Each team must line up on the north and south sides of the field for a kickoff. When a player on the receiving team catches the ball, he must attempt to move it back toward the defense's goal line. The game momentarily pauses if a player is tagged or goes out of bounds. The teams must then face off again from that spot. The ball changes to the other team after a touchdown or four tries. Play until it gets too cold to continue.

Snow Dodge Ball

Some games, such as dodge ball, can be modified into a winter sport. Make a bunch of snowballs and split into two teams. Have fun throwing the snowballs at the opposing team. If you get hit with a snow ball you must exit the game. However, if a player manages to catch an offending ball, the thrower must go sit out. Continue playing until every member of the opposing team is eliminated.
