For many, losing weight can be an uphill battle. And those who succeed will acknowledge that weight loss is no easy task. Fad diets and quick fix plans sound tempting, but according to Barry M. Popkin, director of the University of North Carolina Interdisciplinary Obesity Program, they cannot work for you in the long run. The only sensible combination is to combine healthy low fat meals with exercise if you are to lose 50 pounds quickly and keep the weight off. It's also important to remember that rapid weight loss can trigger other medical conditions like a toxic release of persistent organic pollutants which can damage internal organs, and should always be done in conjunction with your medical practitioner's advice and recommendations.

Study Label to Reduce Caloric Intake

In a study conducted by economists from Stanford University, it was found that consumers who could read calorie information made healthier choices than those who did not have access to this information. Find out what your calorie requirement is and make sensible choices by selecting foods whose calorie levels you know or can find out. According to Dr. Ray Sahelian, the recommended calorie intake is around 1,400-1,500 calories combined with moderate exercise. A 50-pound weight loss will require careful caloric counting to ensure each meal portion size is nutritious and appropriate.

Vary Your Daily Exercise

A single exercise routine can prove monotonous and hard to follow. Instead, using a combination of daily activities and aerobic exercises can help you lose weight, build muscle tone and flexibility and boost your metabolism, according to an article on Fitness.gov. A strong metabolism will continue to help you lose weight even in a relaxed state.

Eat Nutritious Foods

A diet rich in nutritious food could help you feel full longer and speed up your metabolism, two ways in which to lose weight quicker. Introduce high-fiber cereals, healthy fats like olive oil, protein-rich foods like low-fat yogurt, vegetables and fruits rich in antioxidants and spicy foods that increase your metabolism, into your daily meals. There is no one single food that can help you lose weight quickly, but by including a combination of healthy items in your diet, you can see the pounds drop off faster, important if you are looking to lose in excess of 50 pounds in a shorter amount of time.

Drink Plenty of Water

In a study conducted by Dr. Brenda Davy, Ph.D., and an associate professor of nutrition at Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg, drinking water before meals can help you feel more full and can encourage weight loss. It may also discourage you from consuming carbonated soft drinks that provide empty calories, and is a safe way to encourage weight loss.
