Diabeticine, also known as Diamaxol or Glucolex, is a nutritional supplement developed by HelloLife. According to the official website, Diamaxol is a natural, safe and effective supplement for individuals suffering from diabetes. Diamaxol is a combination of vitamins, minerals, herbs and an amino-acid. HelloLife does not provide a clinical study evaluating the efficacy of its supplement for diabetes. Consult your medical practitioner to find out if this product may help you, as well as possible side effects and drug interactions.
Vitamins
Diamaxol contains vitamins C and biotin, as well as alfa lipoic acid. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Biotin belongs to the B family vitamins. According to Michael Murray ND, researcher and author of "The Pill Book Guide to Natural Medicines," clinical studies indicate that using 9 to 16 mg of biotin daily may help lower fasting glucose levels and support the control of glucose levels in type I and II diabetes. A Diamaxol capsule contains 200 mcg, or 0.2 mg, of biotin; the recommended daily dose is between 3 to 6 capsules. Alfa Lipoic Acid is a vitamin-like substance with antioxidant properties, which may help diabetic neuropathy, a complication of the diabetes involving the nerves.
Minerals
Magnesium, vanadium, manganese and chromium are included in the Diamaxol formula. All four of these minerals are essential to optimal health, especially for diabetics. Vanadium helps improve insulin usage and glucose tolerance. Chromium is a mineral involved in the production of insulin and in the metabolism of sugar. Magnesium and manganese are also important nutrients that help balance the glucose levels in the blood. According to Michael Murray, all four minerals included in Diamaxol have been researched in small double blind clinical studies for their benefits in improving blood glucose levels of diabetics.
Herbs
Ten herbs are listed on the label of Diamaxol : Bitter melon, guggul, Gymnema sylvestre, licorice, cinnamon, huckleberry, banaba, yarrow leaves, juniper berry and cayenne fruit. The exact amount of each herb is not provided by the manufacturer. A systematic review of the published literature on herbs, minerals and supplements that have been studied in over one hundred clinical studies for their possible benefits in controlling glucose levels in diabetics was conducted by GY Yeh and colleagues. The review was published in the April 2003 issue of "Diabetes Care" and the researchers concluded that Gymmena sylvestre and bitter melon, or Momordica charantia, which are included in Diamaxol, yielded some positive results in preliminary studies. More research is needed for all the herbs included in this supplement to assess their effectiveness for diabetes.
Amino Acids
L-Taurine is an amino acid that supports optimal heart function and may help impove insulin sensitivity, according to a study published in January 2000 in the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition." Diamaxol contains 25 mg of L-Taurine per capsule.
