Yoga is a system of exercises and poses with Hindu roots. The poses, called asanas, are thought to not only help balance, flexibility and strength, but also help you achieve a deeper level of consciousness and spirituality. After proper yoga training, you might teach in a wellness center, community center, gym or even start your own center. The teacher training programs offer different yoga styles such as bikram and vinyasa. And you may want to learn a specialty like prenatal yoga or yoga for kids.

Local Accredited Instructors

Yoga classes and centers are available in most areas. The Yoga Alliance offers a database of accredited yoga teacher training programs throughout the nation. Each school found on the Yoga Alliance website is a Registered Yoga School. The RYS certification guarantees that the school has met the Yoga Alliance standards at the 200-hour and 500-hour levels.

Correspondence Courses

If you live in a rural area, yoga teacher training may not be available in a center. You might also have family or work obligations that make training difficult. Yoga teacher correspondence courses are available. Correspondence courses usually include books and DVDs. The training material focuses on anatomy, philosophy, postures and sometimes marketing ideas to start your own yoga business.

Training for Fitness Centers

If you own a fitness club or gym, you may be interested in offering your clients yoga classes. Traveling yoga teachers can come to your facility and train you and your employees. This is a way to train several employees at one time and be a part of the training. After training, your employees will be certified to teach classes.

Yoga Teacher Retreats

If you would like to leave town and become a yoga teacher, consider going on a yoga teacher retreat. These courses are offered in settings like a beach, where you can relax and focus on learning. You will attend group classes and meditations. You should come home rejuvenated and with a yoga teacher certification.
