Street riding remains a prominent discipline of BMX biking. Street riders perform tricks over urban obstacles such as fire hydrants, handrails and sets of stairs. The maneuvers of BMX street riding involve spinning and jumping with the bike. Avoid pedestrians and traffic while attempting these street tricks. Wear a pair of BMX gloves to improve your handlebar grip.

Bar Spin

The bar spin is a street trick that involves rotating the handlebars. Jump the bike off the pavement before attempting the maneuver. Remove your left hand from the handlebar grip as the tires of the BMX ascend off the ground. Pull the right handlebar toward you quickly. Allow the handlebars of the BMX to revolve 360 degrees. "Ride BMX" magazine recommends using your left hand to stop the bars from turning. Place your right hand back on the corresponding grip as your tires make contact with pavement.

180

The 180 remains the most basic street spin. Find a small ramp or inclined curb to aid in the learning process. Pedal your BMX toward the incline at a medium speed. Pull up on the handlebar grips to lift the front tire off the pavement. Rotate your shoulders in the direction of the spin. Lift your knees to allow your back tire to become airborne. Spin your bike 180 degrees to complete the rotation. "BMX Plus" magazine recommends pedaling backwards for a few moments after you land the 180. Turn your handlebars 45 degrees to spin your BMX back to a forward riding position.

Wall Ride

The wall ride is a more advanced street maneuver. Find a vertical wall that features a slight incline leading up to it. Pedal toward the wall at a medium speed. Lift up on the handlebar grips as you near the concrete wall. Lean back to allow your front tire to make contact with the wall. Jump vertically with your feet centered over the pedals as the back tire climbs the wall. Turn your handlebars 45 degrees to ride across the wall. Lift the handlebars to level out the front tire. Bend your knees as the tires make contact with the pavement.

50-50

The street BMX bike features two metallic components known as pegs. The cylindrical pegs are fastened horizontally onto the center of the wheels. The 50-50 refers to the most basic street grind and requires pegs. Find a low ledge that features a marble construction or similar smooth surface. Approach the obstacle with your BMX bike parallel to the ledge. Lift the handlebars while jumping vertically. Align your pegs onto the edge of the ledge. Allow the pegs to grind, or slide, across the obstacle. As you reach the end, lift up on the handlebars to dismount and roll away.
