Foot detox involves using patches, baths and other devices to draw out toxins from the soles of your feet. The herbal ingredients in the products purportedly increase the body's circulation and allow the toxins to be removed through the pores. However, none of the effects claimed by foot detox products have been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for validity.

Remove Toxins

Detox foot pad manufacturers instruct you to place a patch on the feet before you go to bed at night. When you wake up in the morning, you are to remove the patch. A change in color is supposed to signify that heavy metals and unsafe chemicals, such as arsenic and lead, have been removed from the body. However, the Federal Trade Commission has charged detox foot patch makers with false advertising.

Improved Health

The makers of some detox foot baths claim that by using their product, you can expect to experienced improvements in your overall health. During a detox bath session, you place your feet are placed in salted water and electrical currents are sent through the water. After 30 minutes, your feet are removed and you'll note a change in the color of the water. The manufacturerx claims this is proof that the device works. Areas of improvement purportedly include reduced menstruation symptoms, increased energy, improved liver and kidney function, fewer headaches and reduction in joint pain.

No Effects

No scientific evidence is available to prove that foot detox detox has any positive health effect on the body. An experiment conducted by a reporter for "Guardian Unlimited" found that the change in color reported in the foot baths occurred from rust and not toxin removal. Exposing the water and salt to electrodes would cause the water to change color whether or not the feet were placed inside of it.
