Pneumonia is a general term for any infection that affects the lung. In the community, micro-organisms including bacteria, viruses and fungi cause pneumonia. Symptoms include difficulty breathing, cough, chest pain, fever and chills. Pneumonia patients can spread the infection to others through droplets expelled by coughing or by direct contact, according to MedlinePlus. Tea tree oil has anti-microbial properties, according to Drugs.com. This essential oil can help you prevent the infection from spreading to family members. Pneumonia is a serious, potentially fatal illness. Early diagnosis and medical treatment is important. Call your doctor immediately if you suspect pneumonia.
Step 1
Wash your bedding and clothing with tea tree oil and hot water. Add 3 or 4 drops of oil to the wash cycle to destroy any infectious organisms.
Step 2
Make a tea tree oil disinfectant to wipe down surfaces that you touch. In the book "Nature's Antiseptics," author C.J. Puotinen recommends the following disinfectant solution: In a spray bottle, add 1 oz. of tea tree oil, 1 tbsp. rubbing alcohol and 6 oz. of water. Shake well. Spray this antiseptic solution on counter tops, taps, toilets, doorknobs and light plates.
Step 3
Boil 2 cups of water in a saucepan. Remove the pan from the heat and add three to six drops of tea tree oil. Place a towel over your head and breathe in the steam to ease the symptoms of pneumonia.
