The weight loss herbal product Hoodia X57 claims to contain only pure hoodia gordonii, a plant that grows in the Kalahari Desert of South Africa. Native African bushmen use the stalk of this plant to stave off hunger and thirst during a long hunting trip. The product website claims the makers put no fillers or stimulants in the capsule. A lack of FDA oversight on herbal products and a vacuum of verifiable information on the product contribute to a lack of information on Hoodia X57 ingredients.

Hoodia Goronii

The only advertised ingredient in Hoodia X57 is dried hoodia gordonii. This cactus-like plant from the Kalahari Desert is thought to trick the brain into feeling satiated. According to HoodiaGordoniiProductReports.com, a container of Hoodia X57 supplies 75 capsules of Hoodia X57 with 500 mg of pure product per capsule. Anecdotal reports claim the product reduces hunger cravings. The site maintains the product works as advertised, but also points out that individual consumers would like more proof as to the guaranteed content of the capsules.

May Contain Filler

The lack of responses from the official website or independent scientific analysis of Hoodia X57 indicates the capsules may contain inert filler. DietSpotlight.com states its skepticism that the product lacks filler because there is no formula available to consumers. The site also states that the low price, about $25 per bottle as of 2010 depending on what quantity a customer purchases, may indicate fillers have been added to the product..

Lack of Metabolism Enhancement

The lack of any stimulant like caffeine contained in Hoodia X57 may be interpreted as a good or bad feature depending on the individual dieter. Without other stimulants, there is less likelihood of an adverse heart or breathing event that could impact the health of the user. But DietSpotlight.com states that without a thermogenic, or calorie burner, to boost metabolism in the dieter, the product will have limited weight loss potential. Some consumers report no appetite suppression or weight loss from using the product.
