Next time you are stressed, drink a calcium-rich beverage. Whole grains are slowly digested by your body, which will keep your energy levels up, making you able to deal effectively with stress. Also, the complex carbohydrates found in whole grains can help improve your mood. According to WomenFitness.net, complex carbohydrates increase the amount of serotonin your brain releases, and serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps you feel calm.

Stick with whole grains instead of refined grains, which digest quickly and can cause spikes and dips in blood sugar, which can have a negative effect on your mood. Pick whole grains such as brown rice, quinoa, oatmeal, whole-grain cereal, whole-grain pasta and whole-grain bread.

Drinking caffeinated beverages such as coffee, tea and soda can increase your levels of stress and anxiety. Caffeine produces similar effects within your body as stress and anxiety. Therefore, to reduce your stress and anxiety, stick to caffeine-free beverages such as decaf tea, decaf coffee and caffeine-free soda, or choose water instead.
