According to Dennis Lee, President and CEO of Octane Fitness, Octane Fitness is the only fitness company that only produces elliptical cross trainers. Octane has won "Best Elliptical" for the past 6 years. They manufacture elliptical cross trainers for the home and health club commercial grade. Life Fitness provides a wide variety of fitness equipment for the home and health club. They produce treadmills, bikes and elliptical cross trainers -- as well as strength training equipment.

Features

Octane fitness and Life Fitness ellipticals are equipped with contact heart rate sensors, workout programs, are self powered and movable and stationary arms. The Octane elliptical is equipped with Powerbands on it's higher end models to increase upper body strengthening and calorie burn. The Life Fitness higher end models have the optional I-Pod compatibility and LCD TV monitors.

Types

Life Fitness produces the standard type of elliptical cross trainer that offers a total body workout in the standing position. Octane Fitness produces the same standing option; however they innovatively manufacture a seated option elliptical as well. This cross trainer is a better choice if you have low back pain or balance issues using the standing option.

Pricing

As of December 2010 the cost of the Octane cross trainers range from $2,199 to $4,700 for the standing models. The seated models range from $2,199 to $3,899. The Life Fitness models range from $2,000 to $4,000. Costs of both brands depend of model type and features.
