If you already spend too much time away from home, joining a gym to lose weight is an unattractive option. A convenient alternative is to find ways to lose weight at home. Whether you have a large budget that allows you to design a fancy home gym or a small budget that requires a more modest approach, the right strategy and proper dedication can make your home an essential part of your fitness regimen.
Build a Gym
Designate an area of your home for exercise. For example, set up a home gym in a basement, garage or spare room. Fill it with the types of exercise equipment you're likely to enjoy. For example, if you enjoy walking or running, a treadmill allows you to get some exercise no matter how bad the weather is outside. If possible, set up some entertainment options nearby. For instance, a stack of magazines, a TV or radio keeps you from getting bored during your workouts.
Workout Videos
Workout videos provide affordable and convenient weight-loss guidance. The right video makes you feel like you are at an exercise class at a gym, for a fraction of the cost. If you are unsure which workout videos are suitable for your weight-loss goals, rent some from a public library. Test out the videos to ensure they are appropriate for someone at your fitness level. If possible, ask friends and family for workout video recommendations.
Clean out Your Pantry
It's important to get exercise, but eating fewer calories is also vital. Gather up all the high-calorie food items in your pantry, then donate them to a charity. Once your kitchen is clear of all temptation, stock up on low-calorie food items, such as fresh vegetables and fruits, whole-grain breads and cereals, low-fat dairy products and lean meats. If you must keep some high-calorie foods, store them in out-of-the-way places where they will pose less of a temptation. For example, place them in shopping bags and store them on the top shelf in your pantry or in the back of a relatively inaccessible cabinet.
Multi-Task
Take on a project that ensures you will get some physical exercise. For example, intense home-maintenance activities burn lots of calories. Activities such as pushing a lawnmower, building a rock wall, raking your yard and scrubbing your floors improve your home while helping you lose weight.
