The Ingredients in CytoGainer

CytoGainer is a product manufactured by CytoSport. It is a protein supplement intended to help with muscle recovery after workouts to build body mass. It is 98 percent lactose free, 97 percent fat free and contains 54 g of protein per serving. Unlike other protein supplements, CytoGainer does not add additional sugar or fat. It is available in six flavors including chocolate malt, vanilla shake, cookies 'n crème, banana cream, chocolate mint chip and strawberry cream. CytoGainer is sold in 6-pound containers.

CytoCarb II

CytoCarb II is a formula that provides the sweetening for CytoGainer products. CytoCarb II is made of multiple types of maltodextrin. Maltodextrin is a synthetic complex carbohydrate. It contains many sugar molecules all connected in a chain. Unlike naturally occurring complex carbohydrates, synthetic ones such as maltodextrins do not provide the body with true long term energy. Using maltodextrins in the CytoCarb II formula allows CytoSport to label the product as 96.5 percent sugar free.

Cyto Pro II

Cyto Pro II is the formula used to provide protein to the CytoGainer product. Cyto Pro II includes whey protein concentrate, l-glutamine and whey protein hydrolysate. Whey is one of two proteins that naturally occur in cow's milk. Casein is the second protein, but isn't as easily digested. L-glutamine is an amino acid that is naturally made by the body and may also be ingested in the foods that you eat. It is stored in your muscles and needs supplementing if you participate in strenuous exercise. Glutamine helps the body to heal and can also help strengthen the immune system.

Flavorings

CytoGainer uses different ingredients to give the unique taste of each of the six flavors available. The chocolate malt flavor uses cocoa powder. Cookies 'n crème is flavored using chocolate cookie pieces. The strawberry crème flavor uses freeze dried strawberry powder. Other natural and artificial flavors are used for the remaining flavors that aren't distinctly listed on the products ingredient label.

CytoVite

CytoVite is a mixture of vitamins and minerals to increase the nutritional content of the CytoGainer drinks. Vitamins included in CytoGainer include vitamins A, C, D, E, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, B6, folic acid, B12 and biotin. Minerals include calcium, iron, phosphorus, iodine, magnesium, zinc, copper, chromium, sodium and potassium.

Sweeteners

CytoGainer includes two artificial sweeteners to increase the sweetness of the product without adding calories. Acesulfame potassium and sucralose are added. Some individuals may experience sensitivity to artificial sweeteners and should use caution when using this product.

Other Ingredients and Allergens

Other ingredients used in CytoGainer are added for consistency and product stability. These include guar gum, xanthan gum, potassium citrate and soy lecithin. Individuals with allergies to soy, milk, wheat or eggs should avoid using this product because of the ingredients included, and also because the manufacturing facility also uses those products in other products.
