Whether through rapid weight gain, loss or post pregnancy, belly wrinkles, rolls and cellulite are not the ideal shape you imagined for your body. Fat deposits are mainly to blame for these problems as well as stretched, loose skin. Although diet companies promise you instant, miraculous results, don't be fooled. There is only one way to really combat these issues and that is through diet and exercise.

Diet

In order to shrink and eliminate fatty deposits, diet is your first course of action. Reducing your daily caloric intake will set you on the right track. According to the NaturalPhysiques website, visceral fat surrounds your major organs such as your heart and stomach. Subcutaneous fat is the fat closest to the surface of your skin. To reduce both types of fat, eating a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats and low-fat dairy is important. Avoid sugary sweets and processed foods, as well as salty chips and over-caffeinated sodas. All these provide empty calories that equal increased fat placement.

Exercise

Exercise not only burns the calories you take in on a daily basis, but tones and tightens your muscles, making your skin appear smoother. According to the MayoClinic website, exercise to lose weight is the best way to combat cellulite as well as belly fat. Cardio exercise along with weight lifting tends to give optimal results by working all muscle groups and raising your heart rate to burn more calories. Running, walking, squats and cycling are all ideal exercises in your journey to eliminating cellulite and belly fat.

Alternative Assistance

Although diet and exercise are the most ideal methods to fat reduction, the MayoClinic website states that massage may reduce cellulite by increasing blood circulation to the area. Increased blood flow comes the removal of toxins and excess fluid thus causing fat deposits to break down. Weight loss therapies such as acupuncture and hypnosis are available; however, their effectiveness has not been proven in laboratory testing. Always consult your physician before attempting any alternative treatments.

Health Risks

Belly fat and cellulite bring about a slew of health risks when left untreated. Risk of heart disease and diabetes top the list of health risks associated with belly fat and cellulite. Other risks include stroke and fertility problems in women of child bearing years. Losing weight significantly lowers your risk of developing health complications as well as improving your overall outlook on life.
