Coaching Little League Baseball can be a rewarding -- but challenging -- experience. Putting together a practice plan means understanding how to help your pitchers, infielders and outfielders become better at their individual positions, as well as helping hitters hone their batting skills to help generate more offensive opportunities when it's game time.
Step 1
Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your team. Determine what areas you need to focus on for your next practice, such as batting, infield defense, bunting or pitching. Consult batting, fielding and pitching stats to determine the areas your team is struggling.
Step 2
Determine which baseball drills -- such as batting drills, fielding drills and pitching drills -- will best suit the needs of your team. Write down two or three drills for each skill set.
Step 3
Write down a timeline for your baseball practice. Begin by explaining to your team members the skills you'll be helping them work on in practice. Account for time pitchers will need to warm up their arms and time infielders and outfielders will need to stretch and do basic infield and outfield catching drills.
Step 4
Divide your team into different positions, such as pitchers, infielders and outfielders, to help players develop skills specific to their positions. Build in some time in between drills and stations for players to get water and rest.
Step 5
Assign assistant or parent coaches to help monitor the various drills and stations so you don't have to be everywhere at once. Choose assistants who have knowledge regarding the positions they'll be supervising, such as the pitchers, catchers, infielders or outfielders. Assign an assistant or parent coach to keep time so you stay on track and are able to do everything on your practice plan.
