Warm Up
Step 1
Stand with your feet shoulder length apart. Keep your balance in the center of the shoe. Moving both legs at once, roll back on the soles of the shoes and shift your body balance to the heels. Hold this position for five seconds and return. Do five to 10 repetitions.
Step 2
Roll again towards the front of the shoes, shifting your balance to the toe area. Repeat five to 10 times.
Step 3
Move to the back and then to the front on one foot while maintaining balance with the other. The goal is to shift your weight back to the heel and then move it all the way to the toe of the shoe in one roll. Repeat five times on each foot.
Step 4
Stand in front of a wall with your hands pressing against the surface just above your head. Place one leg in front and push the other back. Lunge forward on the front leg and bend the knee. Keep the back leg straight with the heel pressing into the floor. Hold for five seconds and return to start. Do this stretch five times on each foot.
Walking Technique
Step 1
Step forward with one foot and make contact with the surface at the midpoint of the heel. If you look at the design of the bottom of the sneaker, you will see it curves at the heel. The contact point is the lowest part of the heel.
Step 2
Roll the foot forward on the heel, moving towards the ball of the foot. Keep your ankle straight as your foot rolls.
Step 3
Pull your back foot up onto your toes as your front foot rolls.
Step 4
Move your back leg forward and repeat the step with this foot, hitting the surface at mid-heel. Keep your strides slightly shorter than your standard walk. This will help maintain your balance.
Tips and Warnings
- Hold your back and neck straight when moving. According to the guide for Shape-Ups, this helps to promote good posture while walking. Do not watch your feet as you walk.. Keep the movements fluid and avoid exaggerating them. For example, do not raise your knee like a march, just swing the back foot forward. Start slow and increase the pace once the walk feels natural.
