NVE pharmaceuticals markets its popular diet and weight loss alternative Stacker Fat Burner supplements as unique formulas that have been designed to minimize food cravings, burn fat and boost your energy. All of the Stacker Fat Burner formulations utilize a combination of alternative extracts and other natural ingredients that act as stimulants. These formulas were formerly built around ephedra-based compositions; they are all now ephedra-free. While these supplements may be effective for some people, you should consult with your primary care physician prior to using them as a dietary additive.
Chitosan
One of the major ingredients in Stacker Fat Burners is a molecule called chitosan, which is a fiber-like compound isolated from the shells of crustaceans like lobster and crab. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, chitosan may help to stimulate weight loss when taken with a low-calorie diet. While encouraging, it isn't clear how much the chitosan contributed to the weight-loss and whether the low-calorie diet alone was enough to shed the pounds.
Citrus Aurantium
Bitter orange extract, or citrus asurantium, is another ingredient in Stacker Fat Burner supplements. Bitter orange extract is the replacement ingredient for ephedra, because it contains an alternative metabolism-stimulating alkaloid called synephrine. According to the University of Michigan, when combined with caffeine, bitter orange may be an effective weight loss stimulator. However, they caution that most data is based upon personal testimonials and not scientifically controlled studies.
Caffeine
Another major ingredient of Stacker Fat Burners is caffeine. Caffeine, which is added to the formula both as an anhydrous compound and as Kola nut extract, behaves as a neurostimulant which can reduce appetite and increase alertness. The Stacker 2 version contains about the same amount of caffeine per capsule as you would get in 2 to 4 eight ounce cups of coffee.
Green Tea Extract
Stacker Fat Burners also contain green tea extract, which is thought to have significant antioxidant properties. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, green tea may have health protective benefits against heart disease, cancer, and diabetes and may also be helpful at stimulating weight loss.
