Cold brewing is an easy way to remove the acidity from home brewed coffee. The process involves using room-temperature water with prolonged brewing times to produce a bold flavored coffee that can be up to 67 percent less in acidity than traditional coffee. Less acid is safer for sensitive stomachs. You can also keep the coffee in the refrigerator for at least a week, which is longer than traditionally brewed coffee.

Step 1

Measure one cup of ground coffee and add it to one gallon off water in a bowl. Stir the mixture thoroughly with a large spoon.

Step 2

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and put it in the refrigerator. Refrigerate the mixture for at least 12 hours.

Step 3

Strain the coffee by pouring the coffee mixture through a strainer. Throw away the coffee grounds and pour the coffee extract into Mason jars for keeping in the refrigerator.

Step 4

Make a cup of coffee by mixing 2 tbsp. of the coffee extract with 8 oz. of hot water. Add sugar and cream as usual.

Tips and Warnings

  • If you want to make iced coffee, add 2 tbsp. of the coffee extract into 4 oz. of cold water. Add as many ice cubes and flavor as desired.
