Adipex-P Diet Plan

Adipex-P is a brand name version of phentermine. This drug is an appetite suppressant that is prescribed to people who are obese to help them lose weight. The exact diet plan you must follow while taking Adipex-P depends on your gender, weight, height and medical history. Your doctor will determine the exact plan you must follow; however, the basics of the Adipex-P diet plan are the same for all patients.

Components

The Adipex-P diet plan includes eating a reduced calorie diet. For most women, the diet will consist of between 1,200 and 1,600 calories daily. For most men, it consists of between 1,600 and 2,200 calories per day. Fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans and lean protein, and fat-free or reduced fat dairy products are all included in the diet. No sugary foods, snack foods or sugary beverages are allowed on this diet plan.

Time Frame

While taking Adipex-P -- which lasts from three to six weeks on average up to 12 weeks -- you will have to eat three meals a day, starting with a healthy breakfast. You may also eat one snack. Because Adipex-P must be taken on an empty stomach, you must take it before you eat your meals or at least two hours after you finish eating. Depending on your prescription, you may have to take Adipex-P one to three times per day.

Considerations

In order to lose as much weight as possible while taking Adipex-P, you must exercise every day for at least 30 minutes. Cycling, swimming, walking, aerobics classes, water aerobics and yoga are some aerobic exercises that help you to burn fat. All of your exercise should be moderate intensity so that your heart rate is elevated but you can still talk. If you are unable to exercise, ask your doctor for a plan to help you increase your daily activity level.

Warning

Adipex-P must be taken as directed because of the risks of overdosing. An overdose of Adipex-P may be fatal. People who use this drug for prolonged periods may become addicted to it. There is also a risk of side effects, such as nausea, increased blood pressure, dry mouth or insomnia, which can be minimized by taking this drug 30 minutes before eating a meal, according to PubMed Health.
