Eating certain foods may help to naturally cleanse your colon. Your colon is the last part of the digestive tract and is susceptible to accumulated toxins that may potentially be dangerous, according to Marvin Corman in the book "Colon and Rectal Surgery." In lieu of an invasive colonic, simply supplement your diet with nutrient-rich foods to reduce toxin buildup and encourage colon health. Many of the foods are also beneficial to your overall health.

Whole Grains

Whole grains are an excellent source of fiber, which helps to quickly eliminate partially digested food and toxins. Fiber is a tough material that "scrubs" clogged fecal matter out of the colon and off your intestinal walls, encouraging regularity and optimizing the function of your colon, according to Ann Gittleman in her book "The Fast Track Detox Diet." Soluble fiber helps soften the feces for easy elimination but also nourishes friendly bacteria needed to maintain healthy digestion and immunity, Gittleman notes. Whole grains include oat bran, wheat, corn and barley.

Lemons

Lemon juice quickly neutralizes an acidic system and cleanses the colon and the bowel, according to Bruce Fife in his book "The Detox Book." Lemon juice has astringent properties that rid the colon of toxins while also stimulating the liver -- your body's natural detoxifying region. Regularly adding lemon juice to your water can help remove impurities that may lead to health complications, including colon cancer, the author notes.

Berries

Berries are naturally rich in vitamin C -- the powerful antioxidant responsible for immunity, wound healing and inhibiting free radical damage, according to MedlinePlus. In the book "The Complete Cancer Cleanse," Cherie Calbom et al. recommends eating fresh berry varieties, such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries for their high fiber content and toxin-fighting vitamins and minerals.
