Kundalini is the authority and spirit of your consciousness, says Andrea Kowalski in Yoga Journal. Kowalski explains that Kundalini is your "energy of infinite potential," and may be visualized as a serpent spiraling around your backbone, beginning at the base of your spine. The possibility of your awakening can be a joyful experience. However, if the body is not prepared or is forced into this awakening, it is possible to receive mental or emotional discomfort due to the overflow of energy. John Selby and Zachary Zelig, authors of "Kundalini Awakening: A Gentle Guide to Chakra Activation and Spiritual Growth" offer a guide for your Kundalini awakening.
Guide to Kundalini Awakening
Step 1
Focus on your inner awareness. Selby and Zelig state that the first piece of your Kundalini awakening is to pay your attention inward. You need to focus on your own moment-to-moment sensory occurrences and be present in the current moment. In order to do this, you must focus on your breathing and your heartbeat and pulse. You need to pay attention to the gravity that is pulled and pushed on your body. You must be aware of your whole-body responsiveness in the present moment.
Step 2
Concentrate on the power of your attention to each of the seven chakras within your body, says Selby and Zelig. When you focus on your seven chakras, you arouse the centers and bring about more energy. It transports you into a higher and possibly a more balanced level. This second technique allows you to contact, on a deeper level, to your spiritual self.
Step 3
Use the power of sound vibration. In order to do this, you must use the strength of your own voice to awaken chakras and let them move up and down your spine. These sounds or chants are called "mantras," which is a traditional Sanskrit term and is correlated to the awakening of your chakra centers. Selby and Zelig explain that when you chant, either out loud or silently, the sounds stimulate your deeper spiritual nature and move it into a higher level of consciousness.
Step 4
Utilize illustrations to rouse your chakras. By using visual images to assist you in your Kundalini awakening, you encourage a strong impetus for your chakra activation and they are used to activate and balance each of your seven chakras. They are known as Yantras in traditional Hindu practice, says Selby and Zelig.
