Using a stationary trainer gives you a more intense workout than riding a road bike. A trainer allows you to concentrate on your training without worrying about road distractions, such as pedestrians, cars and road hazards. Avoiding inclement weather is another advantage of a stationary trainer; you can even read a book or watch TV while riding. Convert your own bicycle into a stationary bike by installing the rear wheel into a stationary bike trainer.

Step 1

Loosen the locking ring on the top left of the bicycle trainer stand. The ring locks the axle support cup in place once you install the rear wheel into the trainer.

Step 2

Place the left rear wheel axle into the left axle support cup. Turn the left and right axle support adjustment knobs clockwise until the two cups support the rear axle.

Step 3

Center the rear wheel on the resistance roller by alternately tightening the two axle cup adjustment knobs. Tighten the locking ring on the trainer stand to secure the rear wheel in the trainer.

Step 4

Turn the resistance adjustment knob located beneath the resistance roller until the roller touches the rear wheel. Continue to turn the adjustment knob two to three more times to place additional resistance on the rear wheel.

Step 5

Adjust the height of your trainer after securing your bicycle in the trainer. Locate the height adjustment pins or knobs on the legs of the trainer. Raise or lower the bike until you achieve a natural feel when pedaling your bike in the stationary position.
