North Carolina lays claim to mountains, lakes and coastal plains. Whether you enjoy a campground in the Great Smoky Mountains, fishing on Fontana Lake or breathing the salt air at Croatan National Forest; RV resorts and campgrounds abound in North Carolina for you and your family. You can enjoy hiking in the mountains, canoeing on a crystal lake or a round of golf near the seashore all within walking distance of your RV.

Family-Friendly

Families enjoy mini-golf, basketball, swimming, fishing and horseshoes at Holly Bluff Family Campground near Asheboro.

Families that are visiting Carowinds Amusement Park could stay in the adjacent 55-acre Camp Wilderness Resort. After the kids are tired of the roller coaster, hop on the free shuttle and head back to the campgrounds. The swimming pool has a lifeguard and the playground is 1,000 square feet, providing lots of play area for children ages 12 and under. There is free Wi-Fi internet and satellite television.

The Carolina Beach Family campground gives families a great home base for nearby activities such as: The Battleship North Carolina, the North Carolina Aquarium and Cape Fear Riverboats.

Dog-Friendly

Many RV resorts allow dogs, as long as owners leash their animals and clean up after them, so don't leave your best friend at home. Four Paws Pet Kingdom Campground in Rutherfordton offers a small-dog fenced playground, a fully fenced agility fun park to burn off energy and a doggy bathhouse for grooming needs. This RV Campground offers free wireless Internet and has room for the largest sized recreational vehicles.

The KOA-Fayetteville Campground has dog runs for your pooch, one of them equipped with toys for dogs of all sizes.

Another dog-friendly RV resort is Sleepy Bear's RV Park in Lumberton, which offers a large enclosed dog run.

State and National Parks

More than 40 national and state parks provide camp sites for recreational vehicles in a variety of locations. Among that national park sites are Smokemont Campgrounds in the Great Smoky Mountains and Ocracoke Campground at Cape Hatteras National Seashore Park.

Dismal Swamp Campground and Raven Rock Campground belong to the North Carolina State Parks' system. Both national and state parks provide programming for all ages on a variety of topics.

Themed RV Resorts

The NASCAR RV Resort at Stonebridge combines the love of fast cars with the slow pace of RV camping.

For those gem hunters on a quest for rubies, garnets or even topaz, North Carolina's mountains hide many types of minerals and gemstones. The Lucky Strike Gold and Gem Mine offers RV campgrounds and prospecting. Pan for gold during the day and enjoy a family atmosphere with potluck dinners and live music on Thursday evenings.

Golf

For the golfer who prefers to play on a variety of courses, Rutledge Lake Resort is situated near Asheville. You may play on eight different golf courses while the RV remains safely parked in one location.

Pine Lakes Resorts, situated near world class golf courses in Pinehurst and Southern Pines, is close to some of the best golfing in the world, including Pinehurst No. 2, home to numerous world-class PGA tournaments.

Sycamore Lodge RV Resort. Not only is Sycamore Lodge near Pinehurstit has a pool and Jacuzzi complex, outdoor dance pavilion, bingo hall as well as golf cart rentals on site.
