Skateboarders perform tricks on a variety of obstacles. Street skateboarders execute tricks over handicap ramps and fire hydrants. Park skaters prefer designated courses that feature cement and wooden ramps. All-terrain skateboarders have a well-rounded style and enjoy both street and ramp tricks.
Flip Tricks
Both ramp and street skaters perform variations of the flip trick. Flip tricks involve spinning and rotating the skateboard in the air. The heelflip remains a prominent flip trick. The Berrics recommends kicking your heel against the outside edge of the skateboard to rotate the heelflip. To perform the kickflip, kick your toes against the inside edge of the skateboard. Rotate the skateboard 180 degrees in the air to execute a trick known as the pop shove it.
Grinds
The grind refers to a type of skateboarding trick that utilizes the metal trucks. The trucks are the components located on the bottom of the skateboard. Perform the 50-50 grind by locking both of your trucks onto the ramp coping, handrail or concrete ledge. Execute the 5-0 by grinding on only the back truck of your skateboard. According to Transworld Skateboarding, the nose grind involves sliding across a obstacle while balancing on the front truck.
Grabs
Ramp skaters use the grab technique to ensure the skateboard remains secured to the bottom of their feet. As you begin to soar over the top of the ramp, grab the outside edge of the skateboard with your dominant hand. This trick is referred to as an indy grab. To execute a different variation of the grab, hold onto the area of the skateboard located between your legs. This maneuver, known as the stalefish grab, requires an intermediate level of board control.
Manuals
The manual refers to a type of street skateboarding trick. Learn the manual on flat ground before attempting it on a curb or manual pad. Once you reach a medium amount of speed, raise the front wheels of your skateboard. The manual involves balancing on only the back two wheels. According to professional skateboarder Brandon Biebel, the nose manual involves balancing on the front two wheels of the skateboard.
