K2 Sports began making snow skis in 1964, though founder Bill Kirschner designed one of the first fiberglass prototypes in 1961. Ever since, K2 has dominated the United States sports market as one of the country's leading ski brands. Each year, K2 incorporates the latest technology into their products, and the 2011 line offers many skis well suited for beginners.
Considerations
In an interview with LovetoKnow.com, Kevin Palmer, ski buyer for Skis.com, shared some important tips for selecting beginner skis. First, all-mountain skis are the most versatile, and are thus ideal for beginners who are just getting to know the slopes. In addition, Palmer recommends that beginners choose skis that are chin height, soft, flexible and easy to turn. He also suggests selecting a somewhat wider pair with a 70 to 76 mm waist.
Men's: The Aftershock
K2's AMP, All Mountain Performance line contains several cutting-edge men's skis. However, according to K2's website, the Aftershock is their most versatile all-mountain ski. The ski is wide and stable, and provides a sturdy, forgiving ride. It's also constructed with K2's Mod and Mod Monic technology, which reduces vibration. In addition, the Aftershock is a ski that can grow with you, so you won't have to purchase another new set of skis once you start to advance.
Women's: First Luv
K2's women-specific line was designed for women by women to balance a female center of gravity. K2 created the First Luv ski especially for beginners. It is made with a light composite core and is wide enough to provide amble stability. Plus, according to Ski.com, the First Luv is flexible, making the ski easy to control and turn. It also contains K2's Mod and Mod Monic vibration-reducing technology.
Kids': Luv Bug & Indy
K2 also has a gender-specific children's line. The Luv Bug is designed for girls who are just starting to ski, and the Indy is an all-mountain ski that can grow with progressing boys. Both skis provide stability and high-quality edges meant to help kids stay balanced while building their confidence on the mountain.
