Streetball brings added flair and showmanship to basketball, with players always striving for innovative ways to dribble, pass and dunk the ball. Unlike traditional basketball, streetball favors style over substance. The flashier the better, as players continually try to one-up each other, much to the delight of spectators. While the creativity in streetball knows no bounds, there are plenty of basic tricks that are easy to learn.

Flintstone Shuffle

This streetball move draws inspiration from the Flintstone cartoon, which often showed Fred Flintstone running in place. You'll want to lure the defender close to you, then dribble the ball behind his left foot, bouncing it hard enough so it kicks high in the air. As you're bouncing the ball, break the opposite way to the defender's right foot. The defender will think you're cutting that way and will move with you. That's when you stop and run back to retrieve the ball, leaving the confused defender running like Fred Flintstone.

Sauce 2K

Streetball superstar Hot Sauce has pioneered countless moves, including the Sauce 2K. A deceptive dribbling maneuver, the Sauce 2k begins by dribbling the ball through your legs from back to front, going from your left hand to your right hand. Scoop the ball with your hand and pin it against your right wrist for better control, and then swing the ball dramatically to the left while taking a jab step forward with the left foot. But instead of cutting left, you wrap the ball around the outside of your left leg and bounce it back to the right, reclaiming the dribble with your right hand. The trickery should fool your opponent, creating an open lane to the right.

Shammgod

Named for professional basketball player God Shammgod, who is legendary for his breathtaking on-court skills, the Shammgod is a staple of every streetballer's repertoire. To perform a basic Shammgod, dribble the ball with your left hand and casually let the ball slip off your hand as if by accident. However, before the defender can steal, you reach across with your right hand and pull the ball back. A well-timed Shammgod can catch a defender by surprise and throw him off balance when he reaches for the ball, creating an easy drive to the basket.

The Spider

The Spider requires quick hands and is a showy trick you do while standing still. Take a wide stance and drop the ball in front of you. Swat it with your right hand to your left hand, and then one-touch the ball with your left hand through your legs. Collect the ball with your right hand behind your back, swatting it down so you can reach behind your back and one-touch the ball with your left hand back through your legs. Keep repeating the same pattern. When worked to perfection, this Spider trick makes it seem like you have eight arms.
