The 6 Week Body Makeover Meal Plan is the brainchild of Michael Thurmond, the nutritionist and fitness expert on the TV show "Extreme Makeover." The goal of the diet is to lose 30 lb. in six weeks on the diet. It is a kit available for purchase that includes a video, audio cassette, exercise accessories and custom meal plans. As with all rapid weight-loss ideas, talk to your doctor before beginning this diet, especially if you are taking any kind of medication.

Premise

The idea behind Thurmond's 6 Week Body Makeover Meal Plan is to identify your body type and what kind of food it requires for increased metabolism and fat burning. Thurmond calls this "blueprinting" your body. The kit includes a questionnaire that figures this out for you based on your answers and suggests a meal plan suited to it. Common among all the meal plans is a prohibition against dairy and salt.

Exercise Requirements

The 6 Week Body Makeover Meal Plan requires exercise and recommends a program suited to your body type once you identify it through the questionnaire. The program targets your problem areas. Workouts average about 18 minutes a session twice a week and are referred to as body sculpting.

Options

Thurmond's program also offers a 6 Day Body Makeover. Essentially a crash diet, the 6 Day plan aims for ultra-fast weight loss if you have a special occasion to prepare for. It involves eating five to six small meals a day and includes up to an hour daily of slow exercises such as walking or bicycling. The 6 Week program offers meals to suit your metabolism such as the Fast Track Menu and the Infinite Menu Planner.

Advantages

Thurmond's program does not require that you buy any special foods. Thurmond claims that the questionnaire can accommodate certain conditions such as hypoglycemia, blood pressure abnormalities and food allergies, but if you suffer from any of those conditions, talk to your doctor before attempting the diet.

Drawbacks

This diet requires a certain amount of discipline and a lot of time spent cooking. The available food choices for your body time can be bland. The menus also tend to fall under 1,200 calories a day and the plan is not recommended if you are active and get more exercise than the program allows for. As with any low-calorie diet, once you go off it and if you return to your old eating habits, you're likely to regain any weight you lost, according to Oodora.com.

Cost

Thurmond's kit costs between $140 and $170, as of December 2010. It is available by infomercial and on the Internet. Thurmond does offer a money-back guarantee if the program doesn't work for you.
