The Jenny Craig program claims that successful weight loss does not rely only on what you eat, but your body and thought processes as well. The theory behind the program is that improving your relationship with food is the key to successful weight loss. The program also encourages physical activity and a regular exercise routine. In addition to providing you with the tools to lose weight, the Jenny Craig program also provides education that can help you make informed decisions in the future.

Diet Basics

The Jenny Craig Program uses prepackaged meals to help promote weight loss. Each meal is comprised of approximately 20 percent protein, 20 percent fat and 60 percent carbohydrates, according to EveryDiet.org. Your daily intake consists of three prepackaged meals plus an additional prepackaged snack every day. Although most of your food intake will come from these prepackaged meals, you are also allowed to consume fruits and vegetables and a limited amount of low-fat dairy products, such as milk and yogurt. The Jenny Craig program does not eliminate any specific food group and allows you to consume most foods.

Consultants

When you sign up for the Jenny Craig program, you will be given a personal weight loss consultant. This consultant will act as your mentor every step of the way. Your weight loss consultant can help you design a meal plan that will work for you as well as provide recommendations for exercise. Your weight loss consultant is also available to answer any questions and provide you with support.

Exercise

In addition to the focus on portion control, the Jenny Craig program also acknowledges that exercise is a vital component of any weight loss program. The program recommends engaging in moderate physical activity on most days of the week. Your weight loss consultant is available to help design an exercise program that works for you.

Online Resources

When you sign up for the Jenny Craig Program, you gain immediate access to their online resources. The Jenny Craig website offers tools to track progress, plan your meals, plan your exercise routines and keep an online journal. The website also offers a variety of different recipes that coincide with the diet. There is also a forum and chat area where you can go to talk to others on the program.

Considerations

The Jenny Craig program is available online only or in person. If you work better in an online environment, you can order your meals and track your progress directly from the website. If you prefer to meet with your weight loss consultant in person, you may go to a Jenny Craig weight loss center for regular meetings and to order your meals.
