Gilad Janklowicz, a popular fitness guru, has devoted his life to fitness. He excelled in track and field events in high school. Gilad became a decathlon athlete in Israel and a military fitness officer. In 1991, he was inducted into the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Gilad's "Bodies in Motion" was the first fitness program to be aired on ESPN. Starting in 1983, it is the longest running fitness show on television, partly because of Gilad's charm, but also because his workouts actually work.

Express

The Express Workouts were released in 2008. According to Gilad, he developed these short, targeted workouts to give people a quick and effective energy boost. All 15 different workouts can be completed in 10 minutes or less. There is a schedule provided by Gilad to assist you in progressing from week to week. The schedule is 10 weeks long and is a balance of strength and sculpting exercises, aerobics and stretching. The workouts are available on two DVDs. The workouts on each DVD can be used individually, or you can work through one entire DVD at once, which will take roughly an hour to complete.

DVD 1

This first DVD targets specific areas of the body. The first express workout is the Warm Up. It consists of easy moves such as side bends, twists and stretches to warm up your muscles. Buns & Thighs is the second one. This is to tone your thighs and buns with lunges, squats, and buttocks lifts. The third workout is Hips & Thighs. Strengthening and slimming your inner and outer thighs and hips is the goal of this one. It uses abduction and adduction exercises, including lunges and thigh lifts. Four is the Back Workout. Lateral pulls, bent-over rows, one arm pulley rows, and dead lifts will sculpt your back and improve your posture. The Pectoral/Chest Workout uses exercises such as dumbbell presses, push-ups and standing chest flies. No. 6 is the Shoulders Workout, which will use lateral raises and shoulder presses to shape and strengthen your shoulders. Arms is No. 7 and it targets the biceps and triceps. The Cool Down, with its yoga-like moves will help you to relax and get ready for your day.

DVD 2

The second DVD focuses on the entire body. It starts with the Dynamic Move, which is designed to build strength and burn fat. Strength & Balance uses isometric and balancing exercises to improve strength and balance. Cardio 1-Basic is a low impact aerobic workout to burn fat. Cardio 2-Challenge uses kickboxing techniques to build stamina. Compound Strength works two or more muscle groups at a time to strengthen and tone the body. Core Foundations focuses on the mid-section with crunches and roll up moves. The Core Challenge uses Pilates inspired exercises to firm the abdominal area.

Conclusion

Originally from Holon, Israel, Gilad first moved to California and then to Hawaii, where his shows are filmed and produced. Gilad's fitness programs air three times daily on Fit TV. He is so popular that he has been voted "Fitness Instructor of the Year" since 2004. In 2006, he won 68 percent of the vote for the Trainer of the Day contest, which resulted in a day long marathon of Gilad's shows. Gilad told a reporter for Honolulu Advertiser.com, "I am a performer on TV, and my job is to motivate people to get their butts off the couch. But as a performer, my goal is not to show them how terrific I can be, but rather inspire them to come along with me on this trip."
