Kirkland calcium citrate is a vitamin supplement sold at Costco, a big-box retailer. Kirkland is the Costco store brand. Calcium strengthens your bones and also helps ensure healthy nerves and muscles. Calcium citrate, or calcium salt, is one type of calcium supplement. Choosing a calcium supplement is largely a matter of personal preference and cost. There is little difference between calcium citrate and other types of calcium, such as calcium carbonate. The most important thing in choosing a supplement is the total amount of calcium it contains. The National Institutes of Health recommends that adults ages 19 to 50 get 1,000mg of calcium each day.

Vitamin D

A serving size, two tablets, of Kirkland calcium citrate contains 250 IU of vitamin D. That represents 64 percent of the recommended daily value for Americans, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium. You can also get vitamin D from sun exposure and through dietary sources, such as fish and milk.

Vitamin B-6

Kirkland calcium citrate has 10mg of vitamin B-6, 500 percent of your daily recommended value. B complex vitamins, including vitamin B-6, help convert food to energy and are also contribute to healthy growth and development.

Calcium

Kirkland calcium citrate has 500mg of calcium, 50 percent of the daily recommended value. Calcium is one of the most important minerals in your body. It is also the most abundant. Calcium plays a role in healthy bones, teeth, muscle, blood and other body fluids.

Magnesium

Kirkland calcium citrate contains 80mg of magnesium in every serving. That represents 20 percent of the recommended daily value. Magnesium aids in energy production and healthy muscle function.

Zinc

Kirkland calcium citrate has 10mg of zinc, 66 percent of the recommended daily value. Your body does not require a lot of zinc, but it is an important mineral. Zinc helps your body produce necessary enzymes and also helps you utilize protein. According to the National Library of Medicine, too little zinc can cause anemia, impair growth and slow wound healing.

Copper, Manganese and Boron

Each serving of Kirkland calcium citrate contains 1mg of copper, manganese and boron. That amounts to 50 percent of your daily requirement for copper and manganese. In the United States, there isn't a recommended daily value for boron. Copper helps keep your nerves, immune system and blood vessels healthy and also aids in the formation of red blood cells. Manganese is a mineral required to grow connective tissue and also helps with carbohydrate and blood sugar metabolism. There is little research regarding the use of boron in the body. According to the New York University Langone Medical Center, boron may help prevent osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.

Other Ingredients

Other ingredients in Kirkland calcium citrate include calcium citrate, cellulose, magnesium oxide, croscarmellose sodium, titanium dioxide, dextrose, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, hypromellose, pyridoxine hydrochloride, zinc oxide, sodium borate, manganese guconate, polyethylene glycol, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, cupric gluconate, corn starch, mineral oil, sodium citrate, polysorbate 80, dextrin and soy.
