Cellulite, the puckered, lumpy skin common on the thighs, buttocks and stomach, is caused by fat pushing against the connective tissues under your skin. People of all weights and ages can get cellulite, and its occurrence has been linked to genes, gender and total body fat, among other things. According to KidsHealth.org, most girls and women have cellulite. Cellulite can be extremely difficult to get rid of, but with dedicated, consistent exercise, you can reduce its appearance.

Step 1

Do wall squats. Press your body flat against a wall and place your feet about 18 inches in front of you, hip-width apart. Slowly slide down the wall until you are in a sitting position. Hold the pose for 30 seconds, then rise up and repeat. This tones your quadriceps, buttocks and hamstrings.

Step 2

Do lunges. Stand with your feet hip-width apart, and your hands on your hips. Step forward with your left leg, and lunge until your left thigh is parallel to the ground. Push off your left leg and return to your starting position; repeat this exercise with the other leg. This works your hamstrings and buttocks.

Step 3

Practice stair climber exercises. Stand sideways at the bottom of a staircase. Cross your outer leg over your inner to place it on the first stair; then, pull your other foot off the floor and plant it on the second step. Continue walking sideways up the stairs to tone your entire leg muscle. When you reach the top, return to the bottom normally and repeat the exercise beginning with your other foot.
