Every baseball or softball player needs a batting helmet for protection from stray balls. It's important to have a perfect size of helmet as a small one can cause pain and discomfort while a large one may not provide adequate protection. To determine the best batting helmet size, a single measurement must be taken. While the measurement may not always tell you the perfect size of helmet, it should narrow the choices down to no more than two sizes.
Step 1
Measure the circumference of the head with a tape measure. Run the tape measure around the largest part of the head, typically just above the ears and eyes.
Step 2
Compare the measurement to the size chart for the helmet brand of your choice. The size measurements differ slightly between brands (See Resources).
Step 3
Try on the recommended helmet size in a store. It's best to try on a helmet before your purchase it as the recommended size may not always be the best fit. The helmet must be snug enough that it doesn't wiggle around, but not so tight that it's uncomfortable.
