Cellulite is fat that pushes against the connective tissues beneath a person's skin, creating a dimpled, lumpy look, according to KidsHealth.org. Cellulite most commonly appears on the thighs, buttocks and stomach, and can be caused by a variety of things. Your genes, gender, age, body fat percentage and skin thickness can all be associated with cellulite. Most girls and women, and some men, have cellulite, and there is no cure for it. There are a variety of methods to reduce the appearance of cellulite, but nothing short of plastic surgery can remove it -- and even that doesn't always work, according to KidsHealth.org.

Step 1

Exercise. The best way to reduce the appearance of cellulite is by decreasing excess body fat, and the best way to achieve that is to combine strength-training with aerobic exercise, according to KidsHealth.org. Try lifting weights and running.

Step 2

Eat healthy. A healthy diet is one of the most beneficial cellulite treatments, according to the Mayo Clinic. A healthier diet will lead to weight loss, which can reduce the appearance of cellulite. Avoid excess fat and sodium and make sure to get plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains and protein.

Step 3

Get a massage. A vigorous massage can increase blood flow, remove toxins and reduce excess fluids in areas that are prone to developing cellulite, according to the Mayo Clinic. However, this only temporarily redistributes the fat; skin will return to its normal texture shortly.
