Gaining weight is a normal part of the pregnancy process. However, once you give birth, not all of this weight will necessarily go away automatically. Even after six months post-partum, you might find yourself needing to lose weight. A combination of diet and exercise modifications is all you really need to cut the fat, but remember that it took you nine months to gain that weight, and it will take at least that long to lose it.
Step 1
Reduce your daily caloric intake by 500 to 1,000 calories. According to MayoClinic.com, this will help you lose between one and two pounds a week. Choose low-calorie foods to make this happen such as whole grain cereals, vegetables, fruits and low-fat yogurt.
Step 2
Drink at least eight glasses of water a day to keep your body hydrated and nourished. Drink a glass of water a half an hour before meals to prevent overeating.
Step 3
Take part in 30 minutes of cardiovascular activity daily. According to MayoClinic.com, running, cycling and swimming are acceptable activities. However, you can also power-walk with the stroller to get your heart rate up, even if you're short on time.
Step 4
Continue to breastfeed for as long as possible. According to Baby Center, continuing to breastfeed burns 500 calories a day as your body expends a lot of energy producing milk.
