Kundalini & Yoga Certification

Kundalini yoga is one of the oldest forms of yoga, known as the "mother yoga," according to the Kundalini in the Loop school of Chicago, IL. It combines techniques to both strengthen and stretch the muscles of your body, as well as mantras and breath exercises. Practitioners seek spiritual enlightenment through awakening and balancing energy centers in the body known as chakras. In addition to finding the right school for you, you may also want to become certified as a teacher.

Kundalini Research Institute

Kundalini certification is provided by the Kundalini Research Institute, though you can be trained at a number of centers, including Kundalini in the Loop. The KRI's training is also recognized by the Yoga Alliance. The Institute offers three levels of certification. Each of these levels has a number of skills associated. Each level requires an additional investment of time to gain the next level. Once you learn the skills associated with each level you will be able to pass these skills along to your students in class. The certification courses also teach you the skills necessary to impart the knowledge to your class.

Lead Training

Not only will the Kundalini Research Institute tell you how to teach students, you can also learn how to train other instructors. The trainers for other trainers must have level three certification. This is because they are imparting the knowledge for levels one and two. Level three training also includes training for what the Institute calls "spiritual maturity." This is one of the qualifications needed to train those seeking kundalini certification.

Level One

Level one training takes 220 hours to complete. The course trains future kundalini yoga instructors in the theory, practice and pedagogical skills. Instruction is broken down into 180 hours of training in the classroom and 40 hours of independent study. Students seeking level one certification must also perform the White Tantric Yoga meditation, which requires 40 days to complete. The six pillars of the training course are meditation, philosophy, anatomy and physiology, consciousness, a connection to the Kundalini school's master and a practicum on teaching.

Level Two

You must be a certified level one instructor to take the course in level two kundalini certification training. This is a 300-hour program composed of five 62-hour training modules. There are five areas of the level two training. These involve consciousness, meditation, relationships, the cycle of life and dealing with stress. Once you have completed level two training you are eligible for level three training, which will allow you to help others obtain yoga certification.
