Tightening a trampoline takes some time, but is not difficult to do. Trampolines get their bounce from bounce cords or springs that suspend the net in the trampoline frame. Typically, bounce cords are set to minimum tension by the manufacturer and some bouncers find the factory setting too loose. Springs wear out over time and tightening the trampoline requires replacing the springs. Trampoline accessory outlets carry numerous sizes of springs for trampolines. Use the replacement procedure to remove a spring, then obtain the correct size and number of springs needed.
Bounce Cords
Step 1
Spread the jaws of the adjustable vise grip pliers. Wrap masking tape several times around each of the jaws to protect the bounce cords. Adjust the pliers so that the jaws are 1/8 inch apart.
Step 2
Turn the trampoline over to access the metal knot blocks. Have an assistant steady one side of the trampoline as you begin on the opposite side.
Step 3
Grip one of the bounce cords inside a metal knot block by hand. Pull the cord toward the trampoline frame so the knot is no longer against the outside of the block. Attach the vise grip pliers on the cord just behind the block to prevent the cord from slipping back through.
Step 4
Loosen the overhand knot near the end of the bounce cord with your fingers or use needle nose pliers. Tie another overhand knot close to the knot block. Remove the vise grip pliers.
Step 5
Repeat the tightening procedure at each knot block as you work around the trampoline. Have the assistant steady the opposite side of the trampoline as you go.
Springs
Step 1
Wear cotton or thin leather gloves. Stand on the outside of the trampoline frame. Grip one of the trampoline springs, pull it toward you and lift the end of the spring out of the frame. Lift the opposite end of the spring out of the ring on the trampoline net.
Step 2
Insert one end of a replacement spring into the net ring. Grip the spring, pull it toward you and insert the other end into the frame.
Step 3
Move to the opposite side of the trampoline and remove the spring that is directly opposite the first replacement spring. Replace the spring using the same method. Continue to replace springs at opposite sides of the trampoline until all springs have been replaced.
