Sometimes it can seem as if there is too much to do for Christmas that you forget about finding activities the entire family can do together. Winter sports activities keep the family active in a healthy, team building environment. You may find a new Christmas holiday tradition with a sports game the entire family looks forward to each year.

Football at Park

The primary football season has just ended and you may be in a need for a football fix. Get your family together with friends at the park for a friendly game of touch football. This isn't about winning, its about getting everyone together for a fun-spirited game. Split the teams equally with men, women and children or start a tradition of one family against another. Give everyone the chance to be the hero; just remember to dress warm and wear your favorite team's jersey.

Video Game Olympics

While video games are not exactly what purists refer to as a sport, you can get a lot of enjoyment with a tough workout playing some of the new, body movement games. All the major game consoles offer games that require you to get up, get moving and use your skills. Whether its boxing, baseball, tennis or golf, invite friends and family, divide the teams up and place the winning trophies on the mantle next to the stockings. Video game Olympics keeps everyone inside out of the cold while ramping up heart rates and excitement levels.

Ice Skating

Christmas has many visuals associated with it from grand decorated Christmas trees to Santa's sleigh. One visual commonly seen is ice skating New York's Central Park. You don't have to be in the Big Apple to enjoy a Christmas evening of skating. Even snow-less cities, including Los Angeles, build outdoor ice skating rinks for the holidays. Skill is irrelevant when enjoying a Christmas skating endeavor. You can have just as much fun whether you are twirling about or just trying to not fall on your rear.

Considerations

Being active during the Christmas season helps you prevent extra weight gain from eating the delicious holiday treats. Being active is a lifestyle and developing family sports traditions for Christmas create the mindset to keep moving. The many activities to keep you active during the holiday include building a snowman, having a snowball fight or playing Frisbee with the dog at the park.
