Andre Agassi, born in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Boris Becker, born in Leimen, Germany, both joined the ATP World Tennis Tour in the 1980s as teenagers. Boris Becker turned pro in 1984 at the age of 16, and Agassi turned pro in 1986, also at the age of 16. The two players formed an intense rivalry, facing regular competition from each other as well as other young players, including Pete Sampras, Stefan Edberg and Michael Chang. Both Agassi and Becker reached No. 1 in the ATP rankings during their careers.
Size
Agassi was 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighed 177 pounds, according to the ATP World Tour. Becker was 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighed 187 pounds. Both Agassi and Becker played right-handed.
Titles Won
Agassi won 60 singles titles in his career, and reached 30 other singles finals. He earned $31,152,975 in prize money, according to the ATP. Becker won 49 singles titles and reached 28 other finals, earning $25,080,956.
Grand Slam
Agassi won all four Grand Slam tournaments, earning what is known as the career Grand Slam. He won Wimbledon in 1992, the U.S. Open in 1994 and 1999, the French Open in 1999 and the Australian Open in 1995, 2000, 2001 and 2003. Becker won Wimbledon in 1985 and 1986 at the ages of 17 and 18. He won the tournament again in 1989, and also won the U.S. Open in 1989 and the Australian Open in 1991 and 1996.
Against Each Other
Becker played Agassi 14 times on the ATP tour, including twice at Wimbledon. Agassi won 10 of those matches. Becker and Agassi never met in the finals of a Grand Slam tournament, however. Becker expressed disappointment at the news that Agassi had confessed to using crystal meth in 1997 and then lying about it after an ATP drug test, according to a 2010 article in The Telegraph. Still, Becker admitted that Agassi had been "a great competitor," and that the two players had shared "some close matches."
