Foods That Are an Aphrodisiac

Many foods are believed to have aphrodisiac qualities. Whether these foods truly boost the libido or are just believed to have romantic powers is not always documented. Many foods are considered aphrodisiacs because they look like the sexual organs of the body. Some foods also have colors or scents that are deemed erotic and to act like an aphrodisiac to the senses and the libido.

Ginger

Adding a bit of grated ginger to a salad, soup, dip, or stir fry may add a bit of ardor to the mood according to Gourmet Sleuth. Tea made with slivers of ginger steeped in hot water is also a way to add ginger to the diet.

Visual Appeal or Enticing Scent

Some foods with bright colors have sensual visual appeal, and some foods have great scents that spark an erotic charge. Other foods have shapes that are are reminiscent of sexual organs. These types of foods are often considered aphrodisiacs. Some erotic fruits and nuts include grapes, strawberries, raspberries, bananas, peaches, raspberries, pomegranate and Brazil nuts, which could be served as an after dinner snack to entice a romantic mood. Also, a meal could include carrots, turnips, truffles, apples, pineapple, figs, garlic, cucumbers and asparagus to help stimulate a romantic mood.

Oysters and Libido

The zinc in oysters may help increase sexual vigor. They also contain D-aspartic acid and N-methylD-aspartate, which may help boost testosterone and estrogen, according to How Stuff Works.

Chilies

Chilies and spicy foods contain capsaicin, which boosts heart rate and stimulates endorphins, which will give the libido a boost. Thus adding some chili, salsa, or recipes that include hot peppers to a meal will help the libido.

Dessert

Chocolate covered strawberries contain the stimulant caffeine, which may help to increase alertness, and they also contain tryptophan, which helps raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is a hormone that makes you happy. A joyful mood opens the door to romantic interludes.
