Snacks are meant to keep you from getting hungry so you are satisfied until your next meal. Eating a high-energy snack will help you feel full and will give you the motivation and stamina you need to continue your daily duties between meals. Jon Gordon reports in his book, "Energy Addict: 101 Physical, Spiritual and Mental Ways to Energize Your Life," that an energizing snack will help you retain your mental focus as well as stay awake and alert.
Trail Mix
A combination of nuts and raisins will supply you with some healthy unsaturated fats as well as some natural sugar, both of which can increase your energy and satiate your hunger. Jordan recommends combining several different types of nuts with a small handful of raisins to vary the taste and texture of your high-energy snack. Nuts are also high in protein, which helps fuel your body so you have the stamina and energy to function until time for your next meal. Combine cashews, walnuts and pecans with raisins and eat a handful or so to increase your energy, Gordon suggests. Other nuts, such as pistachios or almonds, can be included as well.
Apple
A piece of fruit gives you some naturally occurring sugar, which supplies you with a gradual release of energy for two or three hours. Fruit also contains healthy vitamins and minerals, Ron Woods and Christopher Jordan report in their book, "Energy Every Day." An apple contains several grams of fiber as well. Fiber works to fill your stomach and increase your energy by eliminating your feelings of hunger and keeping you full for several hours. Eat your apple plain or slice it and spread with 1 tbsp. peanut butter for an added dose of energy. Pears and raspberries are other fruits with several grams of fiber in one serving.
Whole Grain Bread with Cheese
The fiber and protein combination that whole grain bread and cheese offers will satisfy between-meal hunger and will give you sustained energy for several hours. Gordon reports that whole grain bread is a better choice than white bread because it often does not have as much refined sugar, and it has several more grams of hunger-satisfying fiber as well. Choose low-fat cheese because it will provide just as much protein as regular cheese, but it will contain less saturated fat and fewer calories. Cheese also gives you a good dose of calcium for strong bones, teeth and muscles. Toast the bread and allow the cheese to melt as one way to enjoy this snack pair.
