Exercise balls are known by other names like Swiss balls, stability balls, physio balls and balance balls. Thera-Band is a brand name, and the inflation instructions for a ball from this company are the same as any other exercise ball. A 75 cm version is designed for people who are 6 feet 2 inches to 6 feet 8 inches, and the ball comes out to 30 inches, which is important information for inflation.
Step 1
Take the ball out of the box and lay it flat on the floor with the air hole facing up. Smooth out all the crinkles, and let the ball sit for a few hours to allow it to come to room temperature.
Step 2
Take out your yardstick and measure up 30 inches on an open wall. Place a small pencil mark at this location. Use pencil because it can be easily removed when you are done inflating your ball.
Step 3
Use an electric pump or hand pump to inflate your ball. Place the cone-shaped tip of a handheld pump into the hole of your ball. Pump it up until it is solid and you feel it is close to the mark you made on the wall.
Step 4
Remove the nozzle and quickly insert the plug that came with the ball. Insert this plug with the flat side up and the long part into the ball.
Step 5
Roll your ball over to your mark on the wall. Place the yardstick on the top of the ball and over to the wall. Keep the yardstick level and compare where it lands in reference to your 30-inch mark. Inflate the ball with more air if it is too low. Remove the plug and take some air out if it is overinflated.
Step 6
Sit on your ball to test the size. Make sure your knees and hips are both bent 90 degrees when you are seated on the ball. Run this test after you check the height. Deflate the ball if you are too high, and inflate the ball if you are too low.
Step 7
Let the ball set 24 hours and recheck it due to stretching. Inflate the ball if you see it has stretched out overnight.
Tips and Warnings
- You can also use the inside of an open doorway to mark your ball height. Exercise balls come with two plugs and either a pump attachment or a small handheld pump. If your ball comes with an attachment, insert it into the ball and use an electric pump or manual hand pump. If it comes with a small handheld pump with the cone on the end, use that.
