Fish oil is from the tissue of oily fish, such as salmon, sardines and herring. The oil is high in omega-3 fatty acids and is considered to yield many health benefits, such as the prevention of high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease, according to the National Institute of Health. The oil is usually sold in capsules or liquid drops form and ingestion can be unpleasant because of its strong fish essence. With a few tactics and a little knowledge, taking fish oil does not need to be feared.

Step 1

Put the liquid or capsules in the refrigerator. This will cool the oil down so it takes longer to break down and dissolve, resulting in less fish burps or aftertaste.

Step 2

Add a few drops to juice or smoothies. Fruit and vegetables, such as apples, carrots, and berries, have strong flavors that can easily mask fresh fish oil, as well as add extra nutrients to the mix.

Step 3

Incorporate fish oil into favorite foods. Mixing a few drops into a meal will hide taste and ensure you get the nutrients while enjoying a favorite dish.

Step 4

Avoid fish oils that have a strong smell. This usually means that the oil has been exposed to air, and is turning or is rancid.
