If you are a dance exercise instructor, it may benefit your career to get certified. During your certification process you will obtain valuable tools such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and injury prevention that will add to your credibility as an instructor and allow you to be a more well-rounded leader in your field. Being certified can also make you more competitive when seeking employment -- in fact, some gyms and exercising facilities may require you to be certified.

Step 1

Contact the American Council on Exercise, ACE, which offers certification in the fields of fitness. In ACE's program for becoming certified, you will learn and review anatomy, kinesiology, exercise physiology, class design and injury prevention. As a certified instructor your students and clients will feel more confident with your knowledge and instruction.

Step 2

Purchase all study material and sample tests available for your certification so you can insure you're prepared to pass the test and get certified. If you have fellow instructors that are also interested in becoming certified, you may suggest sharing the costs of these materials and then you can study together. Or you may contact a fellow instructor that has already passed the certification test to see if she still has the study material available for you to borrow.

Step 3

Obtain your Automated External Defibrillator and CPR certificates, which you are required to have before you can become certified as a dance exercise instructor. You can obtain these certifications through your local Red Cross.

Step 4

Take your certification test after you have studied all the material and feel confident. The test consists of 150 multiple-choice questions -- and you need a minimum of 500 points to pass. Sample tests are also available.

Step 5

Await your results and receive your certificate in the mail. If you do not pass, you can register and take the test again -- but you will need to pay another test fee.

Things You'll Need
